Christmas Romance at Dickens on Main is
a collection of three novellas centered on a small town in Texas during the
Christmas season. The novellas are all
unique in that they aren’t of the same storyline, characters, or plots. The three have in common the theme of the
main characters unexpectantly finding love each with their soon to be spouses and
having faith in the Lord. One thing I
really liked about all three novellas is the descriptions of the various
antique stores and the Dickens on Main
event. The shops in the area give small
trinkets for stocking stuffers to people who come in with the Christmas
stockings that they received when they purchased tickets to the special event. I don’t want to share too much and ruin your
own enjoyment of reading it, for I certainly couldn’t put the book down until I
completed the whole book.
The first novella written by Teresa Ives Lilly is entitled Where’s the Dickens? Here readers will enjoy the story of a big
city reporter who is sent to cover the happenings during Dickens on Main. What he finds instead is a woman who captures
his attention and helps him learn to view small town events in a new
light. However, what starts as a joke
between the reporter, whose name is Charlie, and Rachel then becomes a reality
for the characters, and it even has a twist at the end.
The second novella is written by Stephanie Guerero and is
titled Time for Christmas. In a different genre than the first novella, this
story includes two investigators who are off to their respective vacations when
the nation has an urgent need requiring their attention. Since neither is looking for a relationship,
it is a shock when the agents have to pose as a loving couple. In addition, terrorists are looking to cause
chaos in many small towns during the holiday events. After both have seen the case resolved, the
question to be answered is what happens next?
The final novella, Unexpected
Love written by Paula Mowery, closes out the book. The reader will be really surprised at the
way this story ends. Originally hired to
solve a kidnapping case or a possible missing person’s case, two detectives
come to the end of their leads without resolution. When Kirsten attends Dickens on Main, she gets the shock of her life when a picture in
her room shows hints that the man they are looking for may be in the area. When Chad, the investigator, comes down to
follow up on the possible lead, it causes him to begin seeing what God had in
store for him for almost two years, and he never saw it coming.
Anyone who reads these novellas will really enjoy them, as I
did!
My rating is 5+ stars.
