Murder at Mikado

Title:  Murder at the Mikado (Drew Farthering Mystery #3)
Author:  Julianna Deering
Pages:  333
Year:  2014
Publisher:  BethanyHouse
This is another great entry in the Drew Farthering Mystery series!  Drew faces his biggest challenge thus far in finding a murderer, but will it cost him much more than he bargained for?  The story centers on the Tivoli Theater and its troupe of players.  One of their own is murdered and a former member is allegedly seen leaving the scene of the crime.  The accused is a woman from Drew’s past and the woman in his present, his fiancée Madeline, isn’t at thrilled to have her enter Drew’s life again.  Drew agrees to look into things for the sake of the woman’s young son and her husband.
The stakes are raised when another body is discovered at the theater.  The pressure is on Drew to solve the case quickly as his wedding is in three weeks.  Madeline thinks he should be concentrating on his upcoming marriage and not this woman from the past.  Things begin to get very tense between Madeline and Drew.  Drew agrees to drop his investigation at Madeline’s request, but on the cusp of doing so he is presented with information about his birth mother that he can’t ignore.  To get more information, he must solve the case.  Drew thinks Madeline will surely understand won’t she?  Then, yet another victim is found dead at the theater.  Drew is desperate to solve the case and be done with it.  There seem to be too many suspects for the murders, but who is the mastermind behind these killings?  What is the motive?
I am so enjoying this series.  I hope there are several more novels in store for readers to relish.  I thought the way the author handled Drew’s past relationship with the actress was well done and showed that Drew is not a perfect man and can make mistakes.  I also found it wonderful how Drew and Madeline were each focused on the other’s welfare and only wanted what was best for each other.  The characters are becoming familiar and well-known.  The mystery had many twists and turns and kept me guessing.  This was a thorough pleasure to read.  I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
My rating is 5 stars.
