Colleen Coble's: A Heart's Betrayal

Title:  A Heart’s Betrayal (Journey of the Heart Book #4)
Author:  Colleen Coble
Pages:  112
Year:  2015
Publisher:  Thomas Nelson
My rating is 5+ stars out of 5!
The installments in this series begin with “A Heart’s Disguise” followed by “A Heart’s Obsession” and continue with “A Heart’s Danger”.  In book #4, many things have changed in the life of Sarah and Rand along with Jacob and his wife Amelia.  However, readers are first reminded of Ben Croftner’s younger sister nicknamed Emmie.  Emmie is now a widow and wondering what future there is for her since her family is no longer in the area.  When she is invited to come and help Sarah at the fort, life is about to take another turn, which is becoming a way of life.  Emmie’s heart has been deeply wounded and her trust in any man other than Rand is nil.
Colleen Coble does a wonderful job reminding readers via the story of the characters that we are familiar with and those who have been absent.  I love how quickly a plot thickens for Emmie shortly after a life altering event.  The faith that Rand and Sarah exhibit in their home at the fort is a warm embrace to the heart of Emmie.  During a time of expansion in our history and trouble with various Indian tribes, the story reminds us of just how rugged the living out west was along with life’s threats from outside the fort.
I don’t want to share too much more about the story so as not to ruin it for you.  I can say that it is entertaining and action filled.  Emmie is a character who has a secret she hasn’t revealed to anyone since joining her friend Sarah, so it will be interesting to see if in book #5 the revelation of Emmie’s past comes to light.  So stay tuned for more of this exciting series that has two more installments for readers coming soon!
