Title:  Miranda Warning (Murder in the Mountains #1)
Author:  Heather Day Gilbert
Pages:  357
Year:  2014
Publisher:  Heather Day Gilbert
Tess Spencer’s best friend is an elderly lady who has suffered a stroke and has heart problems now, but when she was younger, she took Tess into her home and offered her friendship.  Now, Miranda is on the cusp of getting married again after being a widow for several years.  She plans to marry an old acquaintance who just happens to be the former husband of her friend from long ago who killed herself.  Tess meets this man and takes an instant dislike to him.  She asks a few questions about his wife and begins to wonder if she killed herself or did her husband kill her and made it look like suicide.  Miranda receives a note in her old friend’s handwriting, warning her to stay away from Paul.  Other things begin to happen to Miranda and Tess, but Tess refuses to give up her search for clues.  She feels like she has to protect Miranda as that is what Miranda did for Tess when she was younger and so desperately needed protection and love.
As Tess tries to unravel this mystery from forty years ago, she is also dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, strained financed due to her husband’s law school debts and living in a small cottage on her in-law’s property.  Her husband is also working long hours at the law firm as he is the lawyer with the least experience, having recently graduated from law school.  Tess doesn’t have a job right now outside the home and gratefully her in-laws are very generous with their resources.  So Tess has time to investigate and as she does, she comes up with more questions than answers.
Heather Day Gilbert is off to a great start in this murder mystery series!  I loved the main character of Tess, her relationships with her in-laws and husband, her sense of humor and her loyalty to her friends.  There is plenty of tension and suspense to keep readers involved, trying to guess the conclusion.  I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Trial by Twelve, which is due to be released in just a few days.  Look for the review right here!

This whole series is so worth reading! They excel at suspense and grabbing the heart of the reader, pulling them into the plethora of happenings in the book. The series has a total of four books that can be read as stand-alone stories though I found reading them in order helped enhance my understanding of the plot and characters.
The titles in order are: Convenient Lies, Twisted Lies followed by Generous Lies, which comes before this final novel I am sharing my thoughts on today.Robin weaves such a well-crafted plot that brings the reader into the story from the first page, and then keep turning the pages with all the twists and turns in the plot.I felt like I was right there observing what was happening around me even though I was reading the book.
Time flew by quickly and I was unaware of what was going on around me because I was lost in the pages!Right th…
