Amish stories can be vastly as different as apples are to oranges, so too are the authors that craft the tales.  I am new to Amy Clipston’s writing and am now hooked on her books, not because they take place in Amish communities or the characters are Amish.  I enjoy her books because she tells a wonderful story that has meat in it.  In other words, there is depth in the plot, characters and community.
In the first book of this particular series, we meet the two main characters, Veronica Fisher and Jason Huyard.  What ties these two people together might surprise you.  They share the loss of a man named Seth.  To one he was a fiancé and to the other his best friend.  Both Veronica and Jason bear a deep grief and also guilt for Seth’s accidental death at work.  Though neither one is truly responsible, it was just a horrible accident.  Accident or no there are ripple effects in these two hearts as well as their families, coworkers and community.
As readers progress through the book, hearts will be tugged by the grief shown and shared, and also uplifted by the fun times with others.  Veronica finds something out about herself through the book and Jason is learning that love means sometimes waiting patiently.  Sounds simple until one reads that there is something not revealed yet, but occasionally referred to in the story.  At the end of the book, I guarantee you won’t want to wait to find out what is going on that hasn’t been revealed.  So, be prepared to read the next book in the series, The Courtship Basket.

I am looking forward to seeing how the author reveals either another layer of the mystery planted in book one or revealing the mystery as a whole.  I cannot wait to see what happens with these families and the community!
