Crown of Souls (The Tox Files #2)

Title:  Crown of Souls (The Tox Files #2)

Author:  Ronie Kendig

Pages:  480

Year:  2017

Publisher:  BethanyHouse

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Cole Russell commands a secret Special Forces unit that currently is on leave when Cole is shot by a sniper bullet.  There is something unique about the bullet that leads to a familiar shooter.  Cole and his unit are then hot on the trail of one of their own.  Cole seems to be two steps behind his former friend, Alec King, and the bodies and violence are escalating.  They discover that as Alec seems to be wearing an ancient crown, he becomes more and more deranged as well as more powerful.  He wants Cole to joint his fight as he insists they are the same type of soldier.  Cole recognizes feeling some of the same things Alec does and thinks about joining up with him.  His girlfriend and deception expert, Haven, has other ideas and continues telling Cole what a different man he is than Alec.  Cole still battles feeling guilty and unworthy of Haven’s love and respect.  Can he save others from Alec’s evil climactic event as well as himself or will he live up to his nickname and prove toxic?

Wow!  What a riveting story that captivated me from cover to cover.  I love these types of stories that combine elements of danger, adventure, mystery, romance, faith, archeology and history.  I also like the military aspect of the story where readers see soldiers willing to give the ultimate sacrifice of their lives to serve and protect our freedom and our country.  Thank you to those who have in the past or are currently serving in the military!  The writing is top notch and will draw readers in from page one.  The search for truth and justice is one many can relate to and get involved with; I know I sure did and loved it!  There were some questions left unanswered at the end of the story, so I’m anxiously awaiting book three in the series.  Thank you, Ronie, for another great adventure!

The Jefferson Key

Title:  The Jefferson Key

Author:  Steve Berry

Pages:  480

Year:  2011

Publisher:  Ballantine Books

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Each book I read of Steve Berry’s is for me a lesson in the nuance of historical events and people.  While the book is a work of fiction, at the end he kindly separates the facts from the fiction of his work.  I am constantly amazed at the number of events that have escaped my notice or memory that make the novels all the more captivating to me from start to finish.

Cotton Malone reappears here to help locate his boss Stephanie and hopefully take down a rogue intelligence boss who is using her power for her own self-advancement.  On top of this situation, the current U.S. President must deal with what is known as the Commonwealth, an organization that has existed from over 150 years and consider themselves beyond the reach of the law.  Yet, one President put a kink in the Commonwealth’s dreams when a cipher was created and considered unbreakable.  However, two pages of the Commonwealth’s document is missing and if they are found before the good guys get a hold of them, these pirates will be unstoppable.

What seems like unlinked presidential assassinations may not be true and what else may the Commonwealth have done or is doing to undermine the Constitution?  Steve Berry’s book is compelling reading from the beginning.  The tension is constantly climbing, reaching an unprecedented height near the end that will keep readers on the edge of their seat and up late at night reading!  If you love a really good book to get lost in for a while, look no further because Steve Berry gives readers what they want and more!

Crisis Shot (The Line of Duty #1)

Title:  Crisis Shot (The Line of Duty #1)

Author:  Janice Cantore

Pages:  432

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Tyndale

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

In the first book of a new series for the author, we meet a young policewoman who is a commander working in Long Beach when she becomes involved in a police shooting.  Tess is a second-generation police officer whose father died years prior in the line of duty.  Throughout the novel, what entertained me was reading Tess’s various rules she has collected over the years from her dad’s wisdom and her learning experience.

Now, due to the press and a certain blogger who is out to smear Tess’s reputation, Tess must find a police job elsewhere.  But who would hire someone with all the bad press and think Tess capable of doing a good job?  When Tess relocates reluctantly to what seems like a peaceful and low-key town without problems, quickly morphs into something totally different than Tess expected!

I have read most of Janice’s books over the years and each one is not just entertaining, but also a journey in faith for the characters in law enforcement.  In this story, there is a pastor who is a humble man who even when suffering terrible heartache who is right there ministering to people he knows.  I fell in love with this character as he faces some heart-rending trials, and though he hurts like any other human being he still reaches out.  When others in the town learn of how he is hurting, they come from everywhere to support him in his time of need.  A true picture of people being the hands, heart and feet of the Messiah in action.

I highly recommend if you haven’t read any of Janice’s books that you grab an opportunity to do so and get ready for the next installment in the series coming out probably in 2018!

Christmas Captive (Love Inspired Suspense)

Title:  Christmas Captive (Love Inspired Suspense)

Author:  Liz Johnson

Pages:  224

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Love Inspired Suspense

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Christmas Captive is the 6th book in the Men of Valor series from Love Inspired.  The other titles are:  A Promise to Protect, SEAL Under Siege, Navy Seal Noel, Navy SEAL Security, and Hazardous Holiday all written by Liz Johnson.  Like her other works of fiction, this story is attention-grabbing and heart-pounding action throughout the whole book!

A special wedding is about to take place on a ship that carries only the wedding party.  When trouble breaks out, the only ones prepared are the terrorists.  Though the maid of honor is a DEA agent named Amy Delgado and the best man is a SEAL named Jordan Somerton, no one on the cruise is prepared for the danger.  What makes the now unforeseen mission tougher is that army and Jordan have a past that they either must put behind them or allow to keep them from rescuing a little kidnapped girl and catch those responsible.

Each book is a standalone and very entertaining to read.  Whether one has a little or a lot of time, these books are worth reading and sharing with family and friends!

The Dark Heart (Dinah Harris Mystery #4)

Title:  The Dark Heart (Dinah Harris Mystery #4)

Author:  Julie Cave

Pages:  276

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Master Books

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Dinah Harris is visiting an old FBI friend, Elise Jones, who is now a detective in a small town.  While in town, a body of a junkie is discovered.  She has been strangled, but evidence is also found that she might not be who everyone thought she was.  Dinah acts as a consultant on the case with Elise heading up the investigation.  The many hours of leg work, phone calls and research begin to find the culprit.  Evidence leads to the local town pastor as having had contact with the drug addict.  Dinah soon discovers he had known the addict while he was in college 20 years before.  Then, another woman’s body is also found strangled.  She had worked a series of temporary jobs, but was known to move around a lot and not settle down.  She, too, was also known to the pastor from his college days.  She has multiple passports and social security numbers just like those found in the addict’s apartment.  What do these three people have in common?

While Dinah and Elise work long hours to gather information and question potential witnesses or culprits, Elise’s 15-year-old daughter is in her sophomore year in school.  She is a good student, but most of the other kids think she is a nerd.  Her best friend and only friend is the local pastor’s daughter.  As Elise continues to question the pastor as she thinks he is hiding something, the friendship between her daughter and his daughter shows signs of tension.  Stretched to the breaking point, the friendship snaps.  Now, Chloe is truly alone and doesn’t know where to turn.

This is not just a murder mystery, but a powerful story about racial injustice and bullying.  These are two terrible acts that are prevalent in our society today.  The bullies in the story are extremely cruel and hateful to someone who is different.  They commit a terrible crime that has devastating results.  The perpetrators of racial injustice in the past are now reaping the consequences of their actions with some dying while another faces the past.  The author does a masterful job of storytelling that drew me in to the tale immediately and pulled my heartstrings with Chloe’s story.  This is a book that plunges to deep depths of sorrow for some and regret for others.  There is hope in the end, but at a high cost.  I got completely involved in the story, letting my emotions ride along with those of some of the characters in the story.  I look forward to Dinah’s next mystery!

Bringing Maggie Home

Title:  Bringing Maggie Home

Author:  Kim Vogel Sawyer

Pages:  337 (ARC)

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Waterbrook

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

This is one of those novels that tells a story through flashes of memories in the past with a return to the present day.  The three main characters are Hazel, Margaret Diane, and Meghan.  They are three generations of family.  Hazel is the grandmother, Diane her daughter and Meghan her granddaughter.  Every summer Meghan would spend several weeks with her grandmother, but now that she is a grown woman she hasn’t seen her for a few years.  Due to a car accident in which Meghan broke her ankle and needs to take time off from work to recuperate, so she decides to spend the time with her grandmother.  When she arrives at her grandmother’s door, she is surprised (not happily) to find her mother there with her four dogs!  Diane and Hazel have a very contentious relationship.  They love each other, but they don’t get along.  Their arguments put Meghan in the middle, feeling like she must choose a side.  She is not looking forward to her weeks of recovery with both in the same small house.

As a gift for her grandmother’s eightieth birthday, Meghan wants to put together a scrapbook of Hazel’s life, including Diane and Meghan.  She discovers some old photos that bring to light painful, but bittersweet memories for Hazel.  A traumatic event from her past has shaped her whole life and that of her relationship with Diane.  This in turn affected how as a single mother Diane raised Meghan.  The ripple effect of trauma is evident, but Hazel has God in her life.  Does she really trust Him?  Diane has rebelled against just about everything her mother imparted to her growing up, so she is far from God.  Meghan listens to her grandmother talk about God and wants to know more.  In the midst of the personal turmoil each woman is feeling, the past makes itself known.  What will each do with it?

The dynamics of the relationship between these three women was interesting to read about.  Meghan job as a cold case detective is perfect for what her grandmother has experienced.  Hazel has an intense desire to find the truth and Meghan longs to help her beloved grandmother find peace.  Hazel longs for healed relationship with her daughter and for them both to know the Lord.  The emotions are heartfelt and the characters easy to get involved with.  This was a different type of story than I’ve read from this author in the past as I’m fond of her historical romances.  I liked reading about how one event affected the lives of so many people and their reactions to it.

Blown Away (Curl Up & Dye Mystery #2)

Title:  Blown Away (Curl Up & Dye Mystery #2)

Author:  Nancy Mehl

Pages:  256

Year:  2011

Publisher:  Barbour Publishing

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

Hilde Higgins and her boyfriend Adam are due to attend the funeral of one of Adam’s friends from their ministry Clowns for Christ who was accidentally electrocuted while working on a house.  The members of the troupe are attending in full dress as clowns.  Adam asks Hilde to stop by the gravesite before the service to make sure the deceased member’s clown hat is atop the gravestone.  What Hilde discovers is not a hat at the head of the grave, but another dead body in the hole for the grave!  As information is gathered about the crime, Adam becomes the prime suspect.

Hilde and her next-door neighbor, Gabe, are determined to clear Adam’s name.  Along the way, Hilde must come to terms with her feelings of abandonment by her father as it is causing her some doubts about Adam.  Hilde also has her best friend wanting to attend church with Hilde for the first time and perhaps opening the door to allow Christ in her life.  Gabe also has a mysterious man looking for him and Hilde just knows Gabe is hiding under a secret identity and will be forced to leave to avoid discovery.  Gabe won’t talk about his past, which leaves Hilde wondering about his future.  Plus, with the information she and Gabe have gathered, she begins to wonder if the first clown death was truly an accident and who could be responsible for the deaths of two clowns.

I really like the hometown feel of these mysteries.  When disaster strikes, the small town of Eden bands together to help one another.  I also like the witty dialogue between Hilde and Adam, as well as Gabe’s godly advice.  That is so needed and special for Hilde, whose own father left her life at a young age to run off with a young woman.  Hilde lives her faith, which is evident to her best friend Paula who has not had the best of Christian examples in her judgmental parents who claim to be Christians.  Hilde knows Paula needs Jesus and Hilde patiently waits for Paula to come to Him.  The mystery is interesting and will keep readers’ attention.  Grab a copy of a good, solid, Christian mystery and enjoy!

Thunder in the Morning Calm (Pacific Rim Series #1)

Title:  Thunder in the Morning Calm (Pacific Rim Series #1)

Author:  Don Brown

Pages:  330

Year:  2011

Publisher:  Zondervan

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Wow, what a thrilling story!  The setting is modern era Korea, both North and South.  There have been rumors circulating that the North Koreans have a prison camp where they are still holding American servicemen from the Korean War.  These prisoners have been held captive for sixty years!  If the rumors are true, then Commander Christianson “Gunner” McCormick plans to rescue them no matter the cost.

Gunner comes from a wealthy family, but he doesn’t flaunt that and is a member of the U.S. Naval Intelligence branch of the service.  His U.S. Marine grandfather went missing during the Korean War, leaving a hole in the life of his mother as she was only five years old when he disappeared.  He is presumed dead, but in his memory Gunner vows to rescue these captive servicemen.  His mother taught him to memorize Scripture every night while growing up, and the one that sticks in his mind while he is deciding whether to pursue this extremely dangerous rescue mission into Communist North Korea is “Do what is right,” from Deuteronomy.  Gunner is risking his naval career as this mission is not sanctioned by the military, lots of money, as well as his life.  He recruits two retired servicemen, one from the U.S. Army and the other from the South Korean military, to help him in this mission.  All the men know that their odds of success are slim at best, but are willing to “leave no man behind”.

Gunner asks for thirty days leave from his assignment aboard the U.S.S. Harry Truman to begin his mission.  While he is gone, his ship engages in practice maneuvers with their South Korean allies.  Missiles get launched, attacks by North Korea, then retaliation from the U.S. cranks up the tension.  Another portion of the story tells about the prisoner camp and the cruelty and brutality of the North Korean soldiers.  When one captive falls ill, they find help from an unexpected source only for the source to be captured and sentenced to execution.  This is the world Gunner and two companions must enter.

I couldn’t put this book down!  The various threads of the story all had their own set of players with tension and danger galore.  The bravery, courage and strength of the U. S. servicemen was inspiring.  Gunner and Keith, both held to their faith in the most trying of circumstances.  God certainly answered the prayers of Margaret, Gunner’s mother, in a big way!  The characters were easy to get to know and connect with, so the story was a quick read for me.  I can’t wait to read book two in the series, Fire of the Raging Dragon.  This is one not to miss, so grab a copy for yourself and a friend!

Ghost Heart (A Medical Thriller)

Title:  Ghost Heart (A Medical Thriller)

Author:  Lisa Harris & Lynne Gentry

Pages:  350

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Create Space Independent

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

What a heart (no pun intended) gripping story has been written by these two gifted authors!  Just wait until you read in the back of the book what spurred this novel to be written!  If a little bit of graphic descriptions of body parts and blood bother you, please try not to let that keep you from reading this tale with a very surprising ending.

The story is staged both here in the United States and Africa, telling about organ donation and procurement.  Along with that storyline is another about pharmaceutical testing of medicines and ultimately about greed with its consequences.  Remember, this is fiction even though as I read the book I could envision all that was described as taking place.  Here is a very good way of giving us insight into what parents of children or adults go through when needing an organ replacement.

I felt for the doctor fighting for her patient’s survival in a small village in Africa while another doctor was after money, prestige and playing upon the superstition of the villagers.  Dr. Mia Kendall would befriend the villagers and help to save lives no matter the cost to her personally.  Race was the pilot who would transport the organs to the hospitals and as Dr. Kendell shared her suspicions, he risks a lot to help.  Could there be a blossoming romance between the pilot and doctor?

Here is a thriller that will cause your heart to race and have you staying up until all hours reading as you reach the very action-packed ending!  The novel is one of the best and one of my favorites for this year thus far!  Though truth be told I have many favorites being a voracious reader, lol!

Rule of Law

Title:  Rule of Law

Author:  Randy Singer

Pages:  480

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Tyndale

My rating 5+ out of 5 stars.

For Randy Singer, this story is his best ever in my opinion!  I really enjoy legal thrillers and suspense type tales and what adds an extra boost to this book is how it also involves politics, the military and much more!  The book may look daunting because of the number of pages; however, the action happens so fast you’ll be hard pressed to turn the pages quick enough!

The question as well as others that propels the tale is did the U.S. President send in the military fully knowing it was going to cost each serviceman their life?  Did a couple of the key cabinet members or intelligence community keep information from the President that she needed to know?  Once Paige, a girlfriend of one of the young men and a Kristen now a widow receive information from someone calling themselves the Patriot, Paige, who is a young lawyer, is burning with more questions than answers.

The material that the Patriot feeds Paige continues to stir questions for her, as well as what Kristen receives and turns over to her lawyer.  Can a couple of lawyers go up against the establishment to bring into the light any wrong doing?  Is Paige ready to perhaps argue her first case ever before the Supreme Court without reprisals from those she points a finger at along with Kristen’s lawyer?

The story is like reading the news on the front page of a newspaper or social media posts.  It takes one’s breath away to see that no one including those who are in Washington and are to be serving the people who sent them to office are above the law.  On top of that, readers will become enamored with the bravery of our servicemen and women who give their all to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.  For me, this was a long wait since Randy’s last work of fiction, but is was so worth it!  This is an over-the-top, well-written and exciting book I hope many read and share with others!

Over Maya Dead Body (Serena Jones Mystery #3)

Title:  Over Maya Dead Body (Serena Jones Mystery #3)

Author:  Sandra Orchard

Pages:  348

Year:  2017

My rating is 3 out of 5 stars.

This is the third book in the Serena Jones Mystery series.  Serena works for the FBI as an agent in the artistic crimes division.  On this adventure, she is with her parents on the way to a wedding of her dad’s best friend.  Upon arrival, said friend has just been found dead.  Is it murder or an accident?  Serena is upset over the death as she spent many summers with Uncle Jack and has lots of great memories.  She can’t let his death remain in limbo as to whether it was accidental or not.  Unbeknownst to her, the two men vying for her affections, Nate and Tanner, show up separately to help her solve the case.  As Serena asks questions, more questions pop up.  She also is dealing with two men who seem interested in her one minute, then turn cold the next.  Her Aunt Martha is also active in seeking out clues, which adds some funny moments into the story.  Of course, everything gets wrapped up at the end of the story and Serena finally does choose a man, but I’m not telling which one!

I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, but this one just didn’t draw me in.  I kept putting the book down, picking it up and hoping I could get into the story, but it didn’t happen.  The going back and forth between the two guys was drawn out too long for my taste.  The story just couldn’t hold my interest.  I will continue to read books by this author as I liked the first two books in this series as well as her Port Astor series.  The mystery portion was okay with some exciting moments, and I love the character of Aunt Martha.  I would like to see a series featuring her!

My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley: Lily’s Dilemma

Title:  My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley: Lily’s Dilemma

Author:  Andrea Boeshaar

Pages:  256

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Barbour Books

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

The year is 1816, the place Middletown, Virginia where McAlister Albright has now bought property to build a home.  Once he was a sea captain and now he wants to be on land with desires to start afresh from his past.  Here is where he meets his nearest neighbor named Lily who lives with her aunt and two brothers in their home since her father’s passing.

Sounds like a love story waiting to happen, right?  Well, not all is what it seems to be as Mr. Everett, who is definitely a mean man; yet, what he lets others see of him is not even close to the “real” man.  With pure genius at work, Andrea leads readers into a deeper mystery veiled in the story that will keep people turning pages until the very end.

I really enjoyed the story with its climax, unique set of characters, and adventure always occurring in the pages.  In the novel, there was never a dull moment and I absolutely was captivated the more the author pealed back the intricacies of the plot and lives of the characters.  So, grab a copy as soon as you can and perhaps read the other novels in the series by other authors, each with their own tale full of excitement!

Portrait of Vengeance (Gwen Marcey #4)

Title:  Portrait of Vengeance (Gwen Marcey #4)

Author:  Carrie Stuart Parks

Pages:  311

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Thomas Nelson

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Gwen Marcey has finally gotten a full-time job, although she is on probation for four weeks until she can earn her first paycheck.  She volunteers to take a case that really doesn’t appear to need a forensic artist, but is eerily like events from Gwen’s past.  She arrives in Idaho at the Nez Perce Reservation to begin helping the local police force in a double homicide.  Two parents of been brutally murdered and their 4-year-old daughter has gone missing.  As Gwen works the case, she begins having flashbacks of memories from her own childhood and thinks that maybe what happened in her past could be linked to what is going on now.  This is a hard sell to the local police chief.  When Gwen starts to follow leads on her own case instead of the double homicide case, the chief lets Gwen’s boss know that she has missed some interview appointments and is distracted.

Gwen and her best friend Beth who has come along to act as Watson to Gwen’s Sherlock research cases from surrounding states that have a similar set of circumstances.  What they uncover leads them to believe the killer is someone Gwen knows and he/she is wanting Gwen to find out his/her identity.  Gwen also is trying to solve the mystery of her past.  As she gets closer to the truth, more attempts on her life are made.  Gwen refuses to give up, but will her refusal cost her life?

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and would highly recommend it to anyone!  I find the writing style of the author easy to follow and the main character real and down-to-earth.  The author really brings her artistic nature to the story in her descriptions using the names of lots of colors I’ve never heard of, but expanded my knowledge in that matter.  Gwen is a survivor.  She never gives up.  She digs and digs until she finds the truth.  She is willing to risk her life and knows to Whom her life is devoted to.  Her faith has played an ever-increasing role in her life and I liked watching that aspect of her character mature.  I love Gwen’s sense of humor and her friendship with Beth.  I’m always excited when I see a new book in this series is coming out, so grab some of the excitement and get ready for plenty of action and suspense!

Deadly Proof

Title:  Deadly Proof (Atlanta Justice Series #1)

Author:  Rachel Dylan

Pages:  320

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Bethany Publishers

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

What an exciting and provocative new book by author Rachel Dylan where legal courtroom battles will capture not just your mind but your heart as well.  When an up-and-coming bright lawyer is tapped for lead counsel to take on a pharmaceutical company allegedly responsible for knowingly putting people at risk with deaths having occurred, Kate Sullivan finds herself being a walking target.  Strange things happen to her materials, as well as between her and the opposing counsel who was a friend in college and more!

The most intriguing legal thriller to come out in a long time!  People like me who get into reading legal thrillers aren’t going to want to pass this book up!  I learned so much about what it takes to prepare for big cases and the multiple people it takes to put legs to finding answers.  I love how Rachel paints such a vivid portrait of the pharma industry and the fictional company who must now defend itself at all costs.  The questions are just how far will they go to avoid going to court and risk losing billions of dollars in settlement costs?

The adventure and danger will ramp your heart rate up and you’ll find yourself cheering for justice to prevail.  Landon, who is a P.I., is tasked with keeping Kate alive throughout the legal battle and the threats she faces that come from many sides.  It will take people with very special skills to keep Kate alive and her material safe.  I cannot wait until the next story comes out in the series, and I hope you will enjoy the heart-pounding action Rachel writes for readers to enjoy!

Miss Leslie’s Secret

Title:  Miss Leslie’s Secret

Author:  Jennifer Moore

Pages:  219

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Covenant Communications, Inc.

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

Conall Stewart has arrived home from fighting a war only to find his home destroyed and his family gone.  No one seems to be able to locate them.  With no place to live, Conall migrates to a small village and rents a home.  He relishes being back in Scotland and being part of a community.  He has dearly missed his homeland.  His eye catches Aileen Leslie, but she keeps her distance from him.  He employs her young son with various odd jobs.  Conall quickly develops an affinity for young Jamie and sees that he is a hard worker who takes pride in a job well done.  He also begins to consider Aileen as a friend and perhaps more.

Aileen Leslie came to the village about eight years ago.  No one knows her past, except Mrs. Campbell her next-door neighbor who arrived with Aileen.  Aileen is a beekeeper to support herself and her son.  She will not accept charity, but as Jamie spends more time with Conall she begins to realize Jamie needs a man in his life to instruct him on how to become a man.  She even feels a little jealous when Jamie spends time with Conall and shows signs of growing up.  She thinks Conall is handsome, but he is rich in her eyes and would want nothing to do with a poor woman like her.  She tries to keep her distance, but she is attracted to him and he to her.  However, she is keeping a big secret that no one can discover or lives will be put in danger.

The story is predictable, but also enjoyable.  There was tension and danger along with romance building to climax of the plot, which held my interest.  I have read other books by this author and found them also worth reading.  The characters in this story, especially Aileen, were engaging for me.  I could relate to her stubborn pride!  I liked the characters of Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Ross to add some light touches of humor.  Conall and Aileen have lived through some terrible events in their young lives, but have survived.  I liked their strength and tenacity.  I look forward to reading more regency romances from this author soon!

Reunited by Danger (Cedar Key Series) Review

Title:  Reunited by Danger (Cedar Key Series)

Author:  Carol J. Post

Pages:  224

Year:  2017

My rating 5 out of 5.

Have you ever gone to your high school reunion and been surprised by how some people have changed and the choices they made brought a different result to their adulthood?  Right from the beginning, in the final book of the Cedar Key Series, readers will be hooked and drawn in when at a reunion one classmate is discovered dead outside.  That is just the beginning of six people who were close during high school and now are slowly but surely being eliminated one by one.  It all starts with a Facebook invite to the party by what turns out to be a deceased classmate.

Amber Kingston and Detective Caleb Lyon are collaborating to find the killer before anymore classmates disappear.  However, one of the people the killer is after is Amber herself.  Amber is a local police officer who initially isn’t afraid for her life, but when the killer ups the ante, Amber’s thinking changes.

The story kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart beating in excitement while also trying to figure out who is after these classmates after a decade.  Plus, I enjoyed the way the character, Caleb, comes to a point where he must decide to risk loving again and entrusting the future with Amber to God.  I hope folks take the time to enjoy each of the Cedar Key books as each was such a joy to read.  While people are at it, they may consider sharing the books with other readers, be they family, friends, or coworkers.

Buried Memories (Cedar Key Series) Review

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

What an intense and mind-blowing story!  I have read the prior three novels in the Cedar Key Series: Hidden Identity, Shattered Haven and Mistletoe Justice with each being an exciting tale.  However, the author outdoes herself with this story from the start.  Some of the characters return from the other books and the action takes place mainly in Cedar Key, but what captured my attention was guessing if the main character, Nicki Jackson, really saw her mother murdered or not.

Throughout the book, Nicki is being stalked, threatened, and a victim of vandalization of all she owns because someone thinks she can identify the man who took her mother’s life 20 years ago.  The nightmares return of that night when the Nicki learns the case has been reopened.  Her best friend from her broken childhood is back from serving his country, Tyler Brant, and he wants to keep her safe.  In order to do so though, he must face his past experience and allow God to heal his mind, heart and soul.

The twists and turns in the book kept me guessing as to who was after Nicki, and if it was more than one person.  Plus, the now budding romance between the best friends seemed to be on then off again and I longed to see the two characters with broken pasts, healed and have hope in their future.  Let me just share there are some surprises in the book and the ending was the best, a real “I didn’t see that coming” type of response!

So, enjoy the Cedar Key Series now with this 4th installment!

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

The Cedar Key series includes prior books titled, Hidden Identity and Shattered Haven.  While each book in the series is a unique story, the place and characters continue throughout.  Reading all the stories isn’t absolutely necessary, but I know I enjoyed each book more knowing what occurred in other novels.

Carol J. Post takes readers on an adventure in this book when Darci Tucker who formerly owned her own store now works for a man who is turning out to have dubious business transactions.  Darci needs the job to support her and her autistic son Jayden so Darci tries to ignore what she is sensing, but soon it seems that ignoring the danger isn’t going to make it go away.  Her boss is doing something on her computer during off-business hours and when Darci discovers what is happening, the tension skyrockets!

Conner is one of the mechanics working there.  His sister also worked there and then disappeared.  Is Darci going to disappear too or is she going to jail with the boss setting her up to take the fall?  For a couple hours of entertainment and action, faith and romance, here is an author whose books you don’t want to miss!

In this installment of the Cedar Key series, the focus is on finding the stalker who is relentlessly terrorizing Allison.  She has come to Cedar Key to start her life over and leave the shame of her past behind.  So, Allison sails customers around various points on Cedar Key which helps supports herself.  She loves the freedom sailing brings!  Now, the well-built wall she has around her heart is in danger of crumbling when she meets a former police officer named Blake from Dallas.

But wait there is more to the story!  Carol J. Post has crafted a tale that will bring readers into the adventure and keep them turning pages until the very end.  I love her writings as she brings faith, romance, mystery and a touch of danger all together.  I quickly got caught up in the story and wondered how it was all going to come to a climax and then conclusion.  Carol does an excellent job of showing faith in action along with the wrestling of trust the characters go through and then ending with God’s faithfulness.

So, grab a copy and enjoy a few hours in the Florida sunshine by way of Cedar Key books!
