The Tempted Soul (Amish Quilt Book #3)

Title:  The Tempted Soul (Amish Quilt Book #3)

Author: Adina Senft

Pages: 320

Year: 2013

Publisher: FaithWords

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.

What an exciting conclusion to the tale covering three friends lives Emma, Amelia and Carrie.  Each woman has had her challenges in life and trying to believe God will bring to them the desires of their hearts.  In the final installment we learn how Carrie who has been unable to have a family with her husband may have to learn how to live without having children while watching the dreams of others come true.

Melvin is an unusual husband in that he is tender, loving and affectionate with his wife, but he doesn’t understand the emptiness and pain bareness brings.  Carrie loves Melvin and leaves her desires time and again with God even when she occasionally tries to find ways to bring about her desire for a baby.  Carrie lays her heart at the feet of God and continues to live within the bounds of the community.

Amelia, Emma and Carrie have been friends since school and each week they gather to quilt and talk. I love how they develop true friendship by speaking words of correction when needed, give each other prayer support and love each other through thick and thin.  I appreciate the fact too that the author doesn’t try to lift the Amish up as perfect or without fault, there are real people.

While the stories are fictional it is easy tog et lost in the pages and have one’s heart captivated by the women in the books.  Each have blessings and trials to face while going through different seasons of life.  I think many would enjoy sitting down and reading without having to filter out anything disliked, as these are clean fictional reads written for a wide audience.

Please enjoy the Quilt Series books A wounded Heart, The Hidden Life and The Tempted Soul, I did and can’t wait to see what will flow from the pen of the author sson!

The Road to Magnolia Glen (A Natchez Trace Novel #2)

Title:  The Road to Magnolia Glen (A Natchez Trace Novel #2)

Author:  Pam Hillman

Pages:  448

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

This second book in the Natchez Trace series is set in 1792 when Mississippi was still a territory under Spanish control.  Quinn O’Shea and two of his brothers are bound for Breeze Hill Plantation, the home of his brother Connor.  Quinn plans to get his two younger brothers settled in their new home and under Connor’s watch and then take off to see the world.  He figures he has looked after the boys for the last nine years and now it is Connor’s turn.  What Quinn didn’t plan on was running into Keira Young and her two younger sisters.  Keira is on her way to Natchez as well to marry a local businessman.  Her brother-in-law has set up the arrangement.  Keira has never met her intended, but hopes for a better life for herself and her sisters.

Upon arrival in Natchez, Keira finds that her brother-in-law has not been honest as to the true nature of the agreement between him and the man she thought she was to marry.  Quinn and two other gentlemen come to the rescue of the Young sisters and take them to Breeze Hill.  When Connor learns of their plight, he agrees to let them stay temporarily.  Keira quickly proves her willingness to work and help out around the recovering plantation.  There is plenty of work, but her younger sister Amelia spends most of her time with a young man who has been taken in to recover from a gunshot wound.  Keira and Quinn are attracted to one another, but both know Quinn is leaving soon so there will be no future together for them.  Plus, Keira still must watch out for her alleged intended’s retaliation for her leaving him.  Quinn is determined to leave after he helps Keira settle her troubles, but can he really leave the woman who has come to mean so much to him?

I love the setting and time period of this story.  I am fascinated to learn about the way people lived then and how they coped with adversity.  Keira relied on God and prayed Scripture to help achieve God’s peace.  The descriptions of the scenery and plantation life made me feel as if I could see the places and people right before me.  I am looking forward to the next novel published by this author, and she is on my watch list as an author to keep an eye out for any new publications from her pen.

The Hidden Life (Amish Quilt Book #2)

Title:  The Hidden Life (Amish Quilt Book #2)

Author:  Adina Senft

Pages:  336

Year:  2012

Publisher:  FaithWords

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

In this sequel to The Wounded Soul, the author focuses on the character named Emma Stolzfus.  Emma is a single woman who has dedicated her life to caring for her parents in their later years.  After the passing of her father, Emma focuses on her mother.  What Emma is surprised by is the shared views, stance and closeness she develops with her mother.

While Emma would love nothing more than to get married and have her own family, seeing it become a reality in her life is another matter.  Since Emma was a young woman, her heart has yearned for one man named Grant.  Grant is unavailable now and readers will enjoy reading his journey as well as the captivating ending to Emma’s tale.

I highly recommend Adina Senft’s books as they include patterns for quilt lovers, great stories to capture the hearts of the audience and a book easily enjoyed in a couple of hours.  While the author herself has never been Amish, her knowledge of the communities spills out in her stories and brings a reality to the plot, theme and players in her books.

Read The Wounded Soul and then The Hidden Life as that will aid in understanding the background and prior happenings in the lives of the three women that are written about in the series.  The final book in the series is The Tempted Soul and that will also be reviewed and shared with readers.

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

US Marshal Dylan McKnight takes his job seriously.  He will do whatever necessary to make sure his witness testifies in a court case involving the head of the state’s mafia crime family.  His witness is the accused’s daughter.  She was slated to testify against him three years ago, but she tricked him and escaped.  That put a serious dent in the court case as well as Dylan’s career.  He thought they had been on the verge of a forever kind of relationship, but now he is determined not to make the same mistake again.  He will keep a professional distance and keep his witness alive no matter what happens.

Looking for something to read at the beach or on the plane?  This will fill the bill.  The writing is easy to read, the chapters fly by and the action is constant.  There is deceit, romance, friendship, fear, anger and many more emotions in the story.  Faith plays an important part in both lives of the main characters, but Angelina’s has faltered over the last three years.  She learns Who she can always trust and how He has never left her alone.  God is on her side and she now has His peace back in her life.  Dylan has remained strong in his faith, even after Angelina left him and his career took a serious hit.  His dependence on God is what gets him through every day.

A Chance at Forever

Title:  A Chance at Forever (Teaville Moral Society #3)

Author:  Melissa Jagears

Pages:  352

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Bethany House

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

George Firebrook has returned to Teaville after leaving about six years ago.  He has returned to make amends for his past behavior to many of the children he bullied as a child himself.  He has a list of those he bullied and has written to some, asking for forgiveness and what he might do as reparation.  He hasn’t gotten very many answers.  Since he plans to stay in Teaville, he needs a job.  He is a math teacher and there is an opening at the local school for such.  He applies for the job and must be interviewed by the school board.  He enters the room only to find himself facing one of the children he taunted most, Mercy McClain.  He knows his chances of getting the job are now over, but he apologizes to Mercy anyway.  He is a changed man and has given his life to the Lord.  Mercy glares at him, promising him he will not get the job.  He knows he deserves her anger, but he longs to make things right.  Since he thinks he won’t be getting the teaching job, he finds a job as a tutor and gardener at the local orphanage only to discover this is also where Mercy works and lives.  He is also tasked with handling a 13-year-old orphan who is as rebellious as they come.  In addition, he plans to adopt one of the younger orphans.  His life is active, but he longs for Mercy’s forgiveness and love.

Mercy McClain can’t believe George Firebrook, who now goes by Aaron Firebrook, has the nerve to return to Teaville.  He apologizes to her for his past behavior several times.  She is concerned about his interaction with the orphan children.  She doesn’t want his bullying ways to rub off on any of the children.  She watches him like a hawk, hoping to catch him up to his old bullying ways.  She is disappointed in that endeavor as Aaron works hard and has a good influence on the children.  Mercy is trying to forgive him, but it is hard to overcome the hurts of the past.  She finds Aaron attractive, but doesn’t want to.  How can she have feelings for someone who treated her so cruelly?  What is wrong with her?  She knows God has a plan for her, but does it include Aaron?

This was a great story of forgiveness, learning you can’t earn forgiveness and love, as well as God’s provision when things look bleak.  The two main characters were written as to be easily identified with by readers, whether the bully or the one being bullied, and the emotions engendered by such experiences.  Most of us have either experienced that or known about it happening.  The completely astounding change in Aaron could only be brought about by God, and it was so neat to read of Aaron’s sincerity and concern for other now.  This is one not to miss!  I thought this was the best book of the series and hope to read more of this author’s works in the future.

Send Down the Rain (A Novel)

Title:  Send Down the Rain (A Novel)

Author:  Charles Martin

Pages:  352

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Thomas Nelson

My rating is 5+ out of 5 stars.

While this is a fictious story, there is some truth in how men were treated when they returned home from serving where their country sent them.  The last book I read written by Charles Martin was exceptional and this one is above and beyond Long Way Gone.  Each story he writes is a stand alone with unexpected twists and turns, characters that seem lifelike and plots that are heart-grabbing from the first page.

Send Down the Rain is set in the early 1960s.  I was a young toddler when the Vietnam War was happening, and my parents protected us form seeing the news so as not to upset us.  However, now I am older and personally want to thank all who have served and are serving and apologize for those who didn’t or don’t give you the thanks you richly deserve.

The story is about a family that a father deserts, and a mother who works her tail off to provide for her two young sons.  Her sons are each unique and different; they have their strengths and weaknesses, but like any mom she loves them both.  Joseph and Bobby grew up in California and were very close, but life tended to tear their hearts out and set their feet on two very different paths.

What Charles Martin wrote is a story of the scars of the heart each bore and the pain each carries within their souls.  Bobby handled his life one way and Joseph another, but both were destructive in their own way.  Each one affected others’ lives, and it took literally decades for the truth to come out and healing to come.  On top of that, Joe and Bobby must decide if the path to forgiveness and freedom of the heart and soul is worth the risk, high cost and possible ramifications.

Personally, Send Down the Rain will always be a favorite of mine and on my shelf to reread sometime in the future.  The novel is mainly from Joseph’s perspective and life, and it is one very gripping tale.  It isn’t really a tear jerker, at least for me, as much as a heart jerker.  The power of forgiveness, truth and love will always beat evil and its intentions bar none.  With all that is going on in the world today, this piece of fiction is well-timed.  I ask that you read it and ask others to read it as well.  While it is a work of fiction, there are nuggets of truth that will touch your heart, soul and mind for days to come!

The Captured Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #3)

Title:  The Captured Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #3)

Author:  Michelle Griep

Pages:  256

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Barbour Books

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

The first two books in the series are written by other authors with book #1, The Mayflower Bride written by Kimberley Woodhouse followed by The Pirate Bride written by Kathleen Y’Barbo.  Each book is a stand-alone story, though they follow a particular family line.  Each is uniquely written in a way to capture the heart and imagination of the readers.  In this third book of the series from Michelle Griep, I found myself a bit more involved in the story whether it was because of the romance, danger, intense moments or the faith of some unusual characters I can’t say for sure.  I only know that I truly was lost in the story as it was also filled with a couple different mysterious scenes that I wasn’t sure how they were going to be played out in the book.

Many times, I felt as if I was there viewing the action, danger, conversations and more.  It captured my mind, heart and emotions, especially the main female character named Mercy Lytton.  She was a very unusual woman who had gifts and abilities that aided her as a scout.  Yet, as she was becoming more aware of being a woman, the emotional turmoil intensified.

Elias Dubois is one of the male characters Mercy is sent on a mission with, and she cannot figure out who the real man is or if he even allows the real reason why he is sent on this mission to be fully known to anyone.  So, Mercy intensely watches him while they are traveling with a couple of others.  Her feelings are confusing her as they begin to reveal to her the hidden part of her own heart.  Both Elias and Mercy have a past they dare not speak of or show, but as the danger intensifies so does the need to know the real person they are facing multiple dangers with along with being sure they stay alive.

At the end of the story, readers will get to read very interesting Historical Notes.  I cannot wait for the next book to be released!  These are fascinating, historical stories that are both entertaining to read and engaging tales.  If you haven’t read any of the book, please catch up before the fourth book is released titled, The Patriot Bride, by Kimberley Woodhouse in August of this year.

Primary Suspect (LIS)

Title:  Primary Suspect (LIS)

Author:  Laura Scott

Pages:  224

Year:  May 2018

Publisher:  Love Inspired Suspense

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Laura Scott has written a very captivating tale of a nurse who is suddenly thrust into running for her life when she walked in on an attempt to murder a patient named Mitch Callahan.  When ER nurse Dana Petrie entered the room, it was simply to thank Mitch for attempting to save her husband who was fighting a fire with Mitch three years prior.  What she got was knocked down by an assailant, Mitch helping her up and asking for her assistance in escaping the hospital!  That happens in just the first few pages of the story!

What follows is a pulse-racing tale of attempting to stay under the radar until the assailant can be identified and caught.  However, somehow the person(s) continue to find them no matter what Mitch or Dana do to remain ghosts.  Mitch’s brothers lend help, but somewhere there seems to be someone listening in to confidential conversations or finding them.

During the many days of being on the run, something is beginning to happen to Dana’s heart that she originally shut off from the rest of the world.  On top of that, Mitch is such a man of faith and believing in prayer he too has been keeping his heart from developing any emotional attachment.  Now though they both must decide is this a real budding romance or just happening because of the danger?  Also, they wonder if the price is too high to let go of the past to embrace the future together.

A must read soon to be released!  Don’t miss this upcoming thriller!

Lone Witness (Atlanta Justice #2)

Title:  Lone Witness (Atlanta Justice #2)

Author:  Rachel Dylan

Pages:  320

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Bethany

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

When you start reading this story, be prepared to be unavailable until the end!  In the story, we meet a seasoned prosecutor who witnesses a vicious crime and is the only witness to the perpetrator.  At first, it sounds like a simple or somewhat straight forward tale, but don’t believe it!  What I found inside was a very suspense filled thriller that had me turning pages until I was done!

The first book in the series is titled, Deadly Proof and I so enjoyed that one that I highly anticipated Rachel Dylan’s next book.  Yet, the author exceeded all my expectations and hope for a legal thriller!  One of the main characters is Sophia Dawson whose legal practice is in white collar crimes after being in another division for the prosecutor’s office.  When she starts to investigate boxes of paperwork and begins trial preparation after the criminal trial as a witness, what follows is a rollercoaster ride that readers will find themselves on as they follow what is unveiled in the case Sophia is now working.

There is action, danger, twists, turns and high-speed thrills that had me up for hours because I was so hooked on the plot.  Where was the author going to take the story, her characters, the sub-characters, the danger that kept climbing right when I thought it had reached a climax?  Her knowledge and experience come into play as evidenced by the way she describes the internal thoughts and struggles of the lawyer players.

The times the audience is taken into the courtroom were very exciting for me as well as how a witness is prepared to testify.  The differences in the practices of the attorneys and their personalities adds another layer of flavor in story.  If you love suspense, thrillers, romance, faith, and a solid story, then look no further as Rachel has given audiences two well done books to relish!  Grab a copy of each and be prepared to be unavailable while your lost in the pages of the novels.

12 Strong Movie (DVD)

Title:  12 Strong Movie (DVD)

Year:  2018

Studio:  Warner Brothers

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

The older I get the more I realize there are many things in time that do slip into my memories, and there are new things to learn all the time.  The movie 12 Strong is a reminder that if we have forgotten 9/11, then we need to remember.  We need to talk with those younger who were here at that time and those who were not.  We need to take them to the site and the museum where memories are told, and our past doesn’t fade.

Here is the link to the museum:

What the movie shows is an action that was decided upon by the President of the United States that was classified until recently.  Now we can know more about what our first response was and the men who carried out the mission.  It is a very moving story.  It is also helpful to enlighten the audience to what those men were facing when they got there, and how by the grace of God they all came home.

I highly suggest that many see this movie, read books and remember as we promised that “We would never forget.”  Now our promise is to teach the next generation of what occurred, who we are as Americans and to remember the family, friends and others who still carry around the heart/body/and soul scars from that day.  I watched it with my youngest son who is 24 and then we talked about what his grandfather did to help my two sons remember this day always.  While he didn’t remember at first what we did, he won’t soon forget what his grandfather passed on to him and his brother when our nation was deeply hurting.

Thank you to all who served that day and those who serve now to shore up this nation once again, so we won’t become victims of those who desire to see us fall and fail.  God Bless America and all who serve from first responder and many, many more!

Lily of the Manor

Title:  Lily of the Manor

Author:  Anita Stansfield

Pages:  272

Year:  2017

Publisher:  Covenant Communications

My rating is 4 stars out of 5.

Lily Broadbent is a wealthy widow who has adopted 11 orphan children.  She would pray before entering an orphanage as to whom she should adopt and leave the rest to God.  She needs of a tutor for her brood and Frederick Woodstone needs a tutoring position.  He journeys to Broadbent Manor, hoping to get the job and to start immediately so he doesn’t have to pay another night’s rent at the local inn as his funds are rapidly dwindling.  He meets Lily and is struck by her very different appearance.  She puts him at ease and lets him know she is used to getting looked at.  He and she strike up an instant rapport and he is hired on the spot.  He begins the next day with Lily observing his methods of teaching as well as discipline for her children.  She is most impressed with how Frederick interacts with and encourages her children.

As the story progresses, Lily and Frederick spend time together talking foremost about each of the children and their progress in the classroom, but eventually they begin talking about other things.  Frederick is surprised at how quickly he has grown to love the children almost as if they were his own.  He looks forward to teaching them each day and misses them when he is apart from them.  He is also surprised to discover that his feelings for his employer go beyond friendship.  When they discover an abused boy, Lily is determined to save him.  She takes risks that worry Frederick.

The only negative I have with this story is that the pace was too slow.  I did, however, truly enjoy the two main characters who were so selfless, compassionate, gracious and God-fearing.  God was the center of their lives and living out their beliefs was evident.  Forgiveness was another theme evident in the story.  Their ability to be so comfortable with each other from the beginning was another thing I liked.  I wish I could visit Broadbent Manor as it sounded so appealing.  The setting for the story was described so well that I felt I was in the story.  It is always nice to read a good, clean romance with God at the center.

The Wounded Heart (An Amish Quilt Novel)

Title:  The Wounded Heart (An Amish Quilt Novel)

Author:  Adina Senft

Pages:  320

Year:  2011

Publisher:  FaithWords

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

The author Adina Senft writes very compelling and heart-moving stories.  The Wounded Heart is one of her older series though she recently finished the series, and I will share a review on in the near future.  The main character is a widowed woman who is running a successful business her husband started but who was killed in a buggy accident after being married to Amelia for 10 years.

Amelia runs the business and is sole proprietor while her sons are in school or at the grandparents’ house.  The grandparents are Amelia’s parents who farm close by and help her with the care of her two young sons.  Amelia’s parents never seem to let up trying to match make as her year of mourning draws to an end as well as two of her best friends when they meet to work on a quilt.

What is shared above is but a teaser to a much deeper and heart-grabbing story mixed with faith, romance and health issues.  It has times where I wasn’t sure how the author was going to bring about the ending, or if the ending was going to be hopeful or disappointing.  Kind of like real life, right?  Either way, I enjoyed getting lost in the pages as it provides a fictional world that appears lifelike and yet I know it isn’t real, so I can leave it there when I am finished.

Soon I will read and share with you my reviews on the other two books in the series: Tempted Soul and Hidden Life!  Be on the watch for them and read book one while you’re waiting if you’d like!

Firing Line (The Blitz Detective #4)

Title:  Firing Line (The Blitz Detective #4)

Author:  Mike Hollow

Pages:  317

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Lion Fiction

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

It is the fall of 1940 and the city of London is experiencing the bombing blitz from German air strikes practically every night.  Residents are seeking cover in their Anderson shelters or subway tunnels.  There are volunteers on night watch to look for fires and such to report to officials and wardens to search for violators of curfew and other regulations.  One such warden is heading out to get information for a superior about a bombing when she passes a home with a bright light shining out a window without any blackout material.  This is against regulations, so she knocks on the door to tell the person to put out the light or cover the window.  She gets no answer.  It is against regulations for her to break in, but firemen can do so.  She snags a fireman from a nearby bomb site, one who had been combating a fire started by an explosion, and takes him to the home.  He breaks the door in and they discover the body of a young woman who has been strangled.

Inspector John Jago and his partner Detective Peter Cradock arrive around 3 a.m. to start their day and their investigation.  With tireless determination, they question person after person and walk to place after place to run down clues.  The victim’s husband is currently listed as missing at the front, and the victim had recently moved out of her mother-in-law’s home and into a place by herself.  They learn from most that the young woman was sweet and gentle.  However, Jago wonders if that is really the case as she was keeping a big secret from everyone.  Is she really the sweet woman some say, or is she secretly involved in something darker?  Jago also learns of a burglary at the victim’s place of employment.  Are the two crimes related?

This is one of my favorite series filled with excellent writing and characters that are becoming like family.  Inspector Jago is beginning to open up more about his feelings for the American journalist, Dorothy.  His young partner, Peter Cradock, is beginning to develop his own style of investigating, but Jago continues to mentor and guide him.  Jago is definitely still the leader of the two.  The detailed and vivid descriptions of West Ham and London as well as the surrounding areas during 1940 put me right in the story.  It was as if I could see the devastation and feel the grief and sadness myself.  I just read book four in the series and I’m dreading having to wait a whole year before book five is released in March 2019!  If you are a mystery lover, then this is one series you will want to read and put on your “keeper” shelf!

Blind Betrayal (Defenders of Justice #3)

Title:  Blind Betrayal (Defenders of Justice #3)

Author:  Nancy Mehl

Pages:  320

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Bethany

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

The Defenders of Justice series begins with Fatal Frost followed by Dark Deception before ending with Blind Betrayal.  In Blind Betrayal, we meet up with U. S. Marshals Casey Sloane and her partner who are tasked with getting a witness safely to Washington D.C. to provide evidence against a dangerous man who runs a drug cartel.  Before Casey and her partner can even start their journey, a bomb goes off in the main marshal’s office.  Now, without a way to contact her boss or know the status of the friends she has there who are also her co-workers, she must discipline herself to focus on her mission.

However, danger increases as miscommunication happens.  People are found dead that weren’t near the bomb site and the boss is in surgery fighting for his life.  Without secure phones, Casey isn’t sure who to trust and her partner feels they are on their own when a FBI agent and former friend of Casey’s shows up to help.

Like the other books in the series this one is a riveting and suspense-filled tale with characters who are almost lifelike as the author has crafted them with such personalities and life choices that haunt them.  Casey is a good U.S. Marshal and a tough lady, but here she also comes face-to-face with her past and must decide whether to face it or pretend she is fine.  Their witness puts them at great risk when she does something that allows others to track or find them without the marshals’ knowledge.

There is also a budding romance, and one character who truly seemed like an anomaly to me as I couldn’t tell if he was a protagonist or antagonist.  A couple of the action scenes really put my heart in my throat as I felt like I was there as a witness.  I loved how Nancy showed in the book the impact of people videotaping, posting, texting and how that can help or hinder what is happening with law enforcement and people in action.

I wonder if Nancy will write another installment in this series or if she is starting a new one, either way her books are such a delight to read and time flies quickly!

Enjoy her Defenders of Justice series!  I did!

If your looking for a quick read with action, mystery, intrigue, foreign lands, romance and faith, look no further as this book is for you!  Lisa Harris writes gripping tales of harrowing near misses and antagonists on the tail of those out to bring them to justice.  Here is tale that gripped my heart as a young woman is looking to hide in a foreign land until she can locate evidence to convict those who murdered her father.

It has been months since she has been able to rest or walk down the street without constantly looking over her shoulder to see if danger is lurking in the shadows.  Now, a man from her past has been sent to extract her and bring her to safety.  The problem is she won’t leave until she obtains the proof.  As the story develops, the dangers and intensity mount along with a growing desire to see the person who committed the act behind bars.

What happens in the mean time is trying to escape capture and not allow her heart to fall in love.  I wonder can she really protect her heart from the love of a man who is constantly risking all to save her from the real threats that come out of the woodwork?  To enjoy finding out who these characters are, order your book and await its arrival with expectancy that is sure to be more than satisfied once readers finish the book!

The Fallen (Memory Man Series #4)

Title:  The Fallen (Memory Man Series #4)

Author:  David Baldacci

Pages: 432

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Grand Central

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

What an incredible, heart-grabbing, mind-blowing mystery!  Amos Decker, along with his partner, is supposed to be on vacation at her sister’s place.  Jamison understands Decker’s uniqueness and has a great platonic working relationship with him.  While they are there Decker observes some rather disturbing sights in a house that he runs to investigate.  Jamison knows there goes the vacation as she refuses to sit on the sideline while Amos chases down leads.  Plus, within a short time, the mystery embroils her sister’s family when her husband is killed while at work.

Jamison’s 6-year-old niece loses her father on her birthday and that just grips the heart of Amos in so many ways.  If you have followed the Memory Man series, you know how this touches Amos very deeply and makes him face some of his own personal losses again.  Readers familiar with the uniqueness of how Amos thinks and works will really enjoy the way David Baldacci has Amos going through some neurological changes.  These changes cause Amos to think long term and wonder exactly how long he can keep working without losing what memory he has left.

The ending of the book is very touching, and I absolutely loved the way its is written!  I hope this isn’t the last we see of Decker and Jamison as I enjoy them working together on solving crimes.  Zoe, the little girl in the story, really grabbed my heart and I loved how it drew out the heart of Amos.  The mystery was top notch and many surprises are in store for those who venture into the book.  You don’t want to miss this thriller!

If you haven’t read Amos Decker in the Memory Man series, start with the first book titled, Memory Man and catch up in the series before the next novel is released!

These are my “go-to” books when I have a few free hours and I want a story that wraps up in that time frame.  I like how these stories get readers involved from the first few pages with plenty of action, tension and excitement.  There is always a faith them and a romance to add to the depth of the story and make it interesting for a varied audience.  I thought the ending of this one was a bit predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.  I got involved with the characters and was rooting for them to find a way to be together, but wasn’t sure if that was going to work out.  I will be posting more Love Inspired Suspense reviews this month, so check out my blog for some exciting adventurous stories!

No Less Days

Title:  No Less Days

Author:  Amanda G. Stevens

Pages:  320

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Shiloh Run Press

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Amanda has written a unique story that begs the question, “Would anyone want to live forever”?  Her main character, David Galloway, has lived many lifetimes with many memories both good and bad.  He wonders if he is the only one to have done so.  David is a former soldier and thinks like one, but his faith is deep including the seasons of wrestling with God.  David owns a bookstore that carries antiques, first prints and a whole range of genres, but nothing compares to his personal library at home.  The problem is no one is close enough to David, by his choice, for them to really know him and he thinks he prefers it that way.  Yet, one story is about to turn his whole world upside down and challenge his faith, worldviews and the wall around his heart.

When my husband saw the book, he thought it was sci-fi, but it really isn’t.  I found the story inside very well written, engaging and thought-provoking.  Some of the experiences David has reflect modern day life choices.  For instance, when David is the one who has been hurt by loss many times and rejected too will he ever be willing to let another person really know his heart?  Will he risk the disappointment by walking in a building to fellowship with people who might let him down even though they try their best not or will he let them down?

This is a fascinating tale that grabbed my attention and kept it until the last page.  The book has mystery to it along with romance, hard choices for a man of faith, and so much more.  I hope you read the book and enjoy it as much as I did.  I wonder too if the author plans on writing more stories that include some of the other aspects and characters she introduced here; I guess only time will tell!

The Post (Movie)

Title:  The Post (Movie)

Year:  2017

Publisher:  20th Century Fox

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

As I sat and watched the movie, I felt like I had stepped back in time to the days of Nixon in office and what occurred to bring shame to the nation during his presidency.  The brave people and owner of The Post did something that truly was costly and frightening, but press on they did!  I remembered learning how Gerald R. Ford video taped his speech to the American people to be seen later once things in Washington were somewhat contained.

President Ford led our nation through a rough time to bring her back to what she stood and stands for today.  I found it ironic that in the movie the characters were willing to go to court and fight, so the story would get out to the American people after being buried for three decades!  To learn that prior presidents had kept information from the American people didn’t surprise me, but to have lied to the people was something that took my breath away.

Now, I look at today and see many people being banned from various public places, bullied for the President they stand for or with, and the newspapers now being the establishment not telling the people the truth.  The newspaper community tells people what to believe, what to say and frankly they have been caught either withholding all the facts, some of the facts or not even telling what really matters most, the truth.

In all fairness not all reporters are like this, some have the gumption to be honest, truthful and build up the America most people love and desire.  Those who don’t do this want to lie, steal any hope budding and want people to quit showing their faith including praying in a public place before they eat.  Well, today this American is saying she will no longer be silent; she will no longer keep her opinions or knowledge of the True God and her love for Israel to a select few.

I am praying for America, our President and others in government.  I am hoping the media will reverse their current course of telling people what to think and I am hopeful that people will discern what they read, watch or listen to via any media or social outlet.  We all have sinned and fallen short.  Now we can and will raise up a generation that is a faith filled, red-blooded American, proud to live in this great nation and to be friends of Israel and her people.

See the movie and remember that we don’t want ever again anyone in office who spends Americans lives and lies to the public.  Pray that this President will continue to walk the path of leaning on God!  Frankly, it is true that with God all things are possible!

Innocent Lies (Hidden Truth #4)

Title:  Innocent Lies (Hidden Truth #4)

Author:  Robin Patchen

Pages:  346

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Create Space

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

This whole series is so worth reading!  They excel at suspense and grabbing the heart of the reader, pulling them into the plethora of happenings in the book.  The series has a total of four books that can be read as stand-alone stories though I found reading them in order helped enhance my understanding of the plot and characters.

The titles in order are:  Convenient Lies, Twisted Lies followed by Generous Lies, which comes before this final novel I am sharing my thoughts on today.  Robin weaves such a well-crafted plot that brings the reader into the story from the first page, and then keep turning the pages with all the twists and turns in the plot.  I felt like I was right there observing what was happening around me even though I was reading the book.

Time flew by quickly and I was unaware of what was going on around me because I was lost in the pages!  Right there that let me know I had a great tale with such tension that didn’t resolve until the very end of the book!  I have read Robin’s other two novels and found them so amazingly thrilling that I plan to read whatever she pens next.

If you’re like me and love books with tension, suspense, faith, hope and thrills, here is an author who excels at delivering such stories to her audience.  If anyone has a picky reader, these books just might fill the bill for what captures their attention.  Regardless, find yourself a copy of the four books and lose yourself in the heart-gripping as well as heart-warming stories you’ll read again and again!

Who the Bishop Knows (The Amish Bishop Mysteries #3)

Title:  Who the Bishop Knows (The Amish Bishop Mysteries #3)

Author:  Vannetta Chapman

Pages:  352

Year:  2018

Publisher:  Harvest House

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

Henry Lapp and Emma Fisher are attending the annual rodeo in their small community of Monte Vista, Colorado.  It is the state’s oldest professional rodeo and a source of entertainment for those from miles around.  The Amish and English both attend and enjoy the event together.  Before the professionals take the stage, it is amateur hour for those who aspire to join the professional circuit.  A young Amish man, who is still enjoying his Rumspringa, has his sight set on this career, but someone has another idea in mind.  As Jeremiah Schwartz leaves the shoot to tackle a steer, he is shot.  Henry hears the shot, but has been waiting in line for hot dogs.  He is unable to use his remarkable gift of drawing an exact recreation of the scene at the time of the shot as he wasn’t watching the rodeo.

The local authorities know about Henry’s ability, but this time they need his help convincing the Amish to help the authorities.  Henry questions and observes various people as he tries to ferret out the killer.  A dark side to young Jeremiah is revealed, but will this lead Henry to the killer?  Is there anyone else in the killer’s sight?  Emma longs to marry Henry and start their married life together.  She wants nothing to do with any more mysteries.  Two have been enough for her, thank you very much!  She wants to help Henry and support him in his role as bishop to their Amish community, so she prays for all involved.

I’m sorry to see this series end as I have enjoyed getting to know Henry and Emma.  The conclusion to this novel is touching and sincere.  I admire Henry and his ability to pray during the most stressful situations with such heart.  Emma is practical and a real “Martha”, but her love for Henry is evident throughout.  The mystery portion of this novel wasn’t as gripping as the first two novels, and the first third to half of the book was slow going, but the second half got much better.  The ability of Henry to gather the community of Amish and work together, as well as work with Englishers to bring a criminal to justice was awesome!  The reminder that God takes care of His own was great to see in the story.  This is a series that will hold readers captive for hours of enjoyment, so get all three books today!
